Apple Pro Video Apps Updated
April 13, 2017 Apple released updates to the pro video apps. Some needed bug fixes and some minor new features. We usually do get an update just before NAB Show each year. Remember to never update mid-project. Check my Support Links page for important articles about backing up your work and updating properly and safely. Here is a list of what was updated and fixed.
As usual, there are some minor features that are not listed. Such as Multicam clips showing their edit points much more clearly. THANK YOU!
The selection for Audio Role colors is now up to 18. But many of them are still way to similar to be useful. Ugh, add the color picker, please! But it is a step in the right directly.
We can also expand the Inspector to get more fine adjustments to sliders. Unfortunately the Color Board doesn’t expand out, so more precise color adjustments still requires punching in numbers manually. Again, a step in the right direction.
The Timeline Index now displays a diamond next to it to show that the Timeline view has been change to show roles. In case you make a change, close the Index pane, and forget, then wonder why things look odd. I’m glad they did this!
There’s a new look for the audio plugins, also! They’re all light gray and look like old time transistor radios from when I was a kid.
Motion has a new Fill filter (in the Stylize category) that is really handy. You can fill a whole layer’s image with a solid color or gradient with some very nice on-screen controls. The fill can be linear or radial also, and the Mix control allows for further control.
Below is Apple’s official list of bug fixes and new features. Now if they’ll just give us a way to get our projects from the Clips app into FCPX…
